Employers: Recruiting Students in Handshake

I’m excited to share a sneak peek into how you and your organization can use Handshake to identify students for recruitment and engagement opportunities. So let’s get started. If you go to relationships and you click “search students.” You’ll have access to all the students in the Handshake system. For the purposes of this training, we are going to identify and narrow it a little bit to a smaller and more manageable group and identify Brandeis students. So Handshake offers a really easy and user-friendly way to conduct this type of search. You can be specific or as general as you want until you find the exact population that you are looking to target. So in this example, we are going to actually identify Brandeis. Here we go. I’m going to select that. This is a much more manageable group. You can tailor it as much as you want. You can tailor class years. You can tailor for majors, you can do minors. You can actually do an advanced search and get as granular as you wish. For the purposes of our training here, I’m going to select “Seniors.” So that’s bringing me back to a much more manageable group. I’m also going to take a look at majors. I’m going to click business. Here I am going to check out this student. Dylan Corn. So here we go. We have a nice snapshot of this particular student and her skills and experiences. Where she has worked. You can see the organizations that she’s affiliated with. You can see the courses that she’s taken. And looks wonderful. A wonderful candidate for a social media intern. So I’m going to reach out to her. That would be the next step. I can do that by sending a message, that’s going to directly message her. I could reach to her via social. So any of these systems that she’s on, including LinkedIn. I could also go right to her resume and get a deeper understanding of her skills and experience as well as her actual preferred email address and in this case, her portfolio. So, I am really impressed with this particular candidate. Though, I would like to see a couple more candidates. So you’re going to go back to your narrowed search. You’re going to go to the top of the page and select “all students.” And here you have the opportunity to download resumes. So you are going to be receiving a live link that you will select and the resume book will pop up. And here we go. This is another wonderful way to get in touch with Brandeis students that meet the skills and criteria that you are looking for. And what you are going to want to do is reach out to these students and invite them to engage with you and your organization in a lot of different ways. You can send them a link to the job or internship that you are recruiting for. You are able to invite them to stop by your table at a career fair or some sort of engagement opportunity taking place on campus.
