(Jo) Keoghs is a national law firm based in Bolton. We’ve always been committed to growing our talent, it’s part of our culture. Everybody has a talent plan and we develop people to the best of their ability. People have the opportunity to grow their legal knowledge through our legal academy. They also are able to gain professional qualifications and they have access to further education sponsorship that may not be in a legal profession. Our apprenticeship programmes predominantly are developing people into our paralegal apprenticeship academy but we also have apprentices in HR, we’re developing our apprentice scheme to cover IT in the future and we also have our level 7 legal apprenticeship programme for people wanting to develop to be a qualified lawyer. In the local community Keoghs offers a number of opportunities. We do this via career events, mentoring programmes and work experience opportunities. Working together with Bolton Council and Bolton College we embarked on our Sector Based Work Academy aiming to recruit long-term unemployed people into the legal profession. (Jayne) They [Keoghs] have actually come out seeking local learning partnerships to grow the workforce, to give people an opportunity. They work really hard to recruit and train local people and once they’re employed they provide some really amazing development opportunities. What they’ve realised is that by widening the pool of recruitment to local people that need an opportunity they’re investing in home grown talent. (Nathan) I found out about the employability course through the job centre. It sounds really cheesy but from that day on my life just changed. The training I received in Keoghs helped me so much. I’ve flourished. I’ve been invested in and I’ve had fantastic opportunities. (Jo) Over 200 people have been promoted within our organisation over the last twelve months and at any moment in time at least 80 people are going through professional skills qualifications. The impact of investing in learning development within Keoghs has been phenomenal. The business has rapidly grown and so with it our need to recruit talented individuals. We are committed as part of our culture to develop individuals for the future and for our future as a business.
