Lordstown workers demand “No” vote on UAW-GM contract

we haven’t heard all of the details of it but we do know that there was nothing mentioned about Lordstown in there it digs deep but we have to show them that we will just contract down and we will fight for it to be voted down because of solidarity it may be Lordstown to death and it may be another plants in law my dad worked for Lordstown for 43 years before I you know how to make my hard decision to transfer up to Flint I was there for nine years so you know you got over fifty years of either me or my father walking through that door and once that door closes that’s you know as there’s no more and it’s just our community depends on fun that lord sound for 23 years I get to go to Bowling Green Kentucky because we have no product in Lord Sun I got a brother going to Michigan and I got another brother in Toledo my mom and dad retired there with 30-plus years so I mean it’s family first Mary Barra where I’m part of the family I think but I must be the flagship because we don’t have a product in Lordstown we doesn’t know when are you gonna ride the backs of the working people to continue to stuff your pockets we want to get word your app we just weren’t comfortable you know Robin PD to pick up we want that because it’s our hands it’s our bags it’s our because our arms it’s our knees it’s our necks that we’re hurrying to make these cars set quotas get him out of here president Trump came to our area and it was four months after I got laid off he said I was in I was at the rally and the cannoli Center in Youngstown he looked right at the crowd he basically looked great at man said don’t sell your homes you know jobs are gonna be pouring back in and I just bought a house in Lordstown two miles away from the plant and when he said that it kind of gave me something to hold on to mind you I was just laid off and you know I was in a pretty pretty you know depressed situation I lost my job and I’ve you know was so proud to have and then you know he says don’t sell your homes you don’t have to show you so I held on to that hope for you know two years before I had to sell it but I just sold my house you know about a week ago it closed the temps that we have getting treated no different than what they do in Mexico and it needs to stop we need to stand up for ourselves there they’re gonna be the ones paying into my pension if nobody’s paying into my pension I’m not gonna have a pension you know when I retire but what do you think about workers beginning to work across borders to come together in a common way yes definitely yeah we got to it so it’s it’s a one GM it’s not the GM in Mexico GM in the United States GM in China is one GM we’re numbers to corporations I don’t care what numbers you get her you get you know you throw your back out of you you hurt yourself they’re gonna tell you whatever we’re gonna pick up another person hire a temp and they don’t care so we have to take care if nobody takes care of us if we don’t stand in solidarity who’s gonna take care no my father you know retired 43 years on their Lordstown and he was you know him and his buddies paved the way for us to be able to you know have a good job and have the opportunity to work for you know a good a good place like Lordstown and you know what they fought for it back then and now we’re fighting for it now and and we’re just following suit and we’re doing what you know our fathers and grandfathers did way before us

  • The issues facing workers in the US is the same as the UK and the world over. We have a common bond and a common enemy. Only a unified international workers offensive can deliver an end to the indignity of our exploitation. International socialism is the only answer

  • I say shame on the UAW for selling out on plant closures. It's all about cheap labor in Mexico. Those plants could be revamped to produce in the USA. If you think there wont be future plant closings UAW you're delusional. SHAME for selling these members out.

  • Keep the strike going for months! Years even. Because everyone wants to pay $75K for their car. Lady…you want to live 'comfortably'? Find a better job…just like the rest of us do.

  • Your not gonna win. You lose. Sorry. They will find someone to take your place at a lower pay rate. They need to make money not just give it away. Keep fighting you might get a little something for your effort.

  • The gentleman invoked Trump's name? SMH. Foolish.
Another term the woman used is Solidarity. Is it reflected in the terms of this TA? Consider:
It is unusually exotic and is all over the place in how it addresses the provisional needs of the UAW workers. Because THEY are all over the place! The UAW membership has become a quagmire of different branches of temps, permanent temps, legacy workers, 28 year provisions, 29 year provisions, plant closing provisions, temporary plant closing provisions, voluntary and involuntary provisions, if you can imagine it, this TA has it!
But does it unify the decision making of the membership as a whole- which is the definition of solidarity? No. What is effecting Lord's Town, isn't effecting Lansing Grand River.
    Sheesh what a mess!

  • Agreed. It is our youth that benefit when UAW workers get their share of the pie. Temps and suppliers get a horrible deal. https://youtu.be/c2CKSjmW4VA

  • Most of these workers voted for Trump who lied that "I'll never let jobs leave". I hope these workers vote for sanity in 2020.

  • Guess who, it's you says:

It's such a shame to watch good hard working people get taken to the cleaners. I believe at one time the system they have may very well have worked and well. But things are different now, they are bargaining and trying to negotiate terms for a dying industry.

No different than paying full price for a horse that only has two weeks left to live.

  • This is a free market system I am sure people will blame Trump to this debacle and the orbit of Mars not being completely circular. GM/Union want the same thing..more money. The Union wants as much money as they can get for employees so they can take more dues. GM wants to labor cost lower so they have a larger profit margins.

Way before Trump GM almost closed. If President Bush not given them billions of dollars they would had closed.

I see two major problems. First GM cars/trucks and SUVs are out of reach for the vast majority of Americans. 35 grand to over 70 grand for a truck is outrageous. The Union keeps up stopping production for more union dues under the guise of "helping their members" but they keep losing facilities in the US it will be a perfect storm that will shutter GM for good.

  • “We’re gonna say no. Not happening. We don’t need benefits or a paycheck. We are, literally, idiots. Hell, you’d have thought we’d say yes just to keep the money rolling in – our bills ain’t goin away – but we think it wise to vote no.”

Did you make more X to deserve your demands? Did you save your employer X amount to deserve your demands? Did you do ANYthing to deserve your demands or do you think things are simply given to you? If you think the latter – and didn’t do one single thing – you aren’t an American and you have a mental disease. But it’s your vote.

“Solidarity” and unions are dead. Stop being an idiot. Eventually the jobs will dry up – how can you not see this?

  • The ceo of Gm made 22 million last year. Toyota is more profitable then GM. The ceo of Toyota is lucky to make less than , one third of that 22 million. That the real greed !!!

  • Typical Democratic voters, I see have made complaints on here.
They complain about factories closing up in America. They want to blame trump, as they drive there non american vehicles down the road !!!

  • Need to educate our young our families. I do I refuse to buy any car shipped in to the USA I've heard all the bs Japanese last longer its called oil changes tune ups service them . Be American' buy American check tags on p rgb products.

  • LORDSTOWN WHINES BITCHES AND CRIES ABOUT THERE FUCKIN' PLANT CLOSING! THEY ACT LIKE THEY ARE THE ONLY ONE'S THIS HAS EVER HAPPENED TOO. I'VE BEEN WITH GM FOR 20 YEARS. MY HOME PLANT CLOSED IN 2007. GM LAID ME OFF TILL 2012. 5 YEARS WITH NO JOB! NOW I'M 2 STATES AWAY FROM MY FAMILY. I HAD TO MOVE MY WIFE AND KID HERE TOO.
YOU GUYS BITCH AND MOAN ABOUT SOLIDARITY. NOBODY COMPLAINED ABOUT ALL THE PLANTS TEN YEARS AGO WHEN GM WAS CLOSING THEM EVEN FASTER.
I'LL SAY IT AGAIN AND AGAIN FUCK ALL YOU WHINING LORDSTOWN BICTHES!

  • It is a shame they cannot make something else at this plant, Lordstown GM had made alot of our run-of-the-mill cars/vans in the past. I will be slowly ridding off my GM cars/truck and picking a new brand, I do not agree with this broke ass company's decision at all and I dont even work there.

  • What a bunch of losers! GM owes them nothing, if cars aren't selling and they decide to close plants, that's their decision! If they produced good quality dependable cars, maybe they'd still have jobs!

  • To all gm employees please vote no on this contract…its horrible…4 year employers should get capped out!!! Temps should get hired asap!!!

  • Stop closing down our plants GM is horrible…who are the leaders who voted on this tentative agreement? Uaw leaders should be ashamed of themselves!!! I guess they don't have to worry about it cus they are corrupted

  • Phillip Crandall says:

Note to all Union workers. Get out of the union. The Union heads dont give two flips about you and you should never trust your battles to somebody else to fight anyway. Leave the Union and negotiate your own terms. Wether thats at GM or somewhere else. You are resposible for your own life.

Everything you said is all but true. Sad thing about it majority of the vehicles
That are out of reach you posted in you’re comment, that majority of them are from
Mexico/China. Buick suv are made in China and the new blazers and jimmys are built
In Mexico. They are paid $2 and hour 18-20 hr work days shipped back and sold for
$30-80grand. Where as the Tahoe’s Denali and some pickups are built in TN Texas
Indiana and Kansas. Chrysler is suppose to build a new plant in Detroit. Wether
That’s to be seen is another story.

@James Wilson : Lordstown and Hamtramck was open during the Obama administration. They are both closed under Trump. So I repeat….you want work? Vote for sanity in 2020. Trump didn't do anything for you.

411 lords town Canada Hamtramck and the others were slated to be closed back in
Early 2004. But were delayed do to the bail outs and restructuring of the courts in 08.
As far as trump doing something he did he revoked their tax breaks in response of closing
The plants. Lords town is suppose to get work making batteries for those electric trucks
That nobody wants. Or was that Hamtramck?🤔

  • Looks like employees have fell for crappy union leadership again. Forget the union & get back to work be4 they decide to replace more people with robots at the assembly plants they could transfer some employees to. It's the union leadership that eventually closes plants because GM does not want the hassel, they want to be profitable & this crap aint cutting it🙄

  • Fuck that! Y’all knew for 2 years! Why the shock! Your holding up progress for everyone else! People transfer to other plants when the signs are on the wall! I just transferred from k.c to Arlington because the fairfax plant is showing signs that it won’t last. I hope it does but doesn’t look good. Fuck trump! Your an idiot for listening to a con artist! How the fuck do union workers vote republican whom are anti-union? You got what u asked for so don’t cry now and hold up the contract!

  • This whole thing is a major problem. I am glad I dont buy any cars with UAW labor! Hay folks welcome to the new world. I have been a number since the day I was hired at my job. It sucks, get over it! The union's will eventually lead to the big 3 shutting down for good later in the Future. Pat yourself on the back so you can strike yourselves out of work!!
    Also, CEO's are over paid.

  • Don't feel bad workers, you can move away, find a better job and ditch the unions who have gutted you of your quality of life

I dropped gm with lordstown, buy Honda or Toyota y'all

  • Our president is negotiating for uaw but this mother fker is stealing money from us and he is taking any deal with gm!!! Wow and alot if uaw members are voting yes? I don't get it. I hope ford employees get a better contract! Cap out after 4 years get temps hired in quicker and stop building plants in other countries! Job security! People at gm are voting yes but they shooting the other uaw members in the foot. What if they close ur plant down one day?

Trump cant sell shitty ass cars that brake down at 60,000 miles dumb ass
    Reply

If the car breaks down after 60,000 miles then I’d say it’s most likely the owners
Fault for not maintaining their vehicles. Might want to find a new mechanic or
Do it yourself books. It’s not the big 3 fault. I have my mothers lesabre has 230,000
Miles going strong, bought new tires alignment minor body work and some minor
Engine work from wear and tear from driving, other than that no migraines. Going on a year now. Been to carol winds NC early spring. 11 hr trip none stop didn’t have one break down. And it’s a 2003 Buick. Best of all no payments. Ahh yes let me bask in the joy
Of drinking from my anti big 3 Whiney tear mugs while everyone else struggling with pmts And constant struggle on auto repairs. SIP! 🍻 ahh yeah that hit spot

  • You people will learn I promise you, company's are looking for cheap labor, you people are not cheap labor! You should be making Macdonald wages, and Trump can't and won't help, he sold a bill of goods to you steeples to get in office, now reap what you so, I'm not buying GM , I stick with Toyota! Sink fast GM
